Yes!!!
The new season (or half-season) of Monk starts tonight!!!
What will happen? Will Monk be able to survive the tragic loss of his long-time caretaker and assistant, the beloved Sharona?
How will they explain her absence?
Who will replace her?
Will the new person be any good?
Will the audience accept her?
Will America’s favorite and hysterically-funny obsessive-compulsive detective jump the shark, as one reader ponders down yonder? (Though you really can’t tell that from just one show; shark jumps can be accurately discerned only in the rear view mirror.)
Monk is worried about these and many more questions. Just look at him! Can’t you see how worried he is?
Help Monk get over his new half-season jitters by tuning in and giving the new character a chance.
He can’t go off the air. He’s got crimes to solve!
I love Monk. I will miss Sharona though, she was a very strong character. From some of the preview clips I heard on the radio, it sounds like he might not find a replacement right away. I’ll be watching tonight.
When watching the previews and noting Sharona was gone, I was wondering if I missed an episode last season that had her gone. Guess not.
I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode and the season – does anyone know if former season is out on dvd?
Yes, the first two are out. I’ll post links to them soon.
The first two seasons are out in wonderful boxed sets, but beware! THEY ARE ADDICTIVE! We received the second season just this past week and my son has already watched it all the way through once and is into his second screening.
They contain a lot of great extra material, too.
My son and I are waiting with bated breath for tonight’s season opener!

According to USA’s Monksite, Sharona is leaving to re-marry her ex and live in New Jersey. I suppose this first episode will have Bitty appearing (and cameos later I would assume) as she does show in the cast list and bios. We’ll see how the former bartender works out. From the character sketches I read I wouldn’t be surprised if they may try to work a romance angle between Monk and his new assistant. BRING ON THE NEW EPISODES!
Sharona is leaving! How is the neurotic defective detective going to cope without her ?
I live in England and you know how it is, we get everything eons after you guys (McDonalds), so at present we’re only up to the beginning of the second series…I can hardly bear to ask, but do they actually ‘date’ at any point during the series, because i see an undercurrent of attraction in their relationship (I may be mistaken – it wouldn’t be the first time >insert laughter here if so inclined<) ? Hope you don't mind my stopping by, i wrote about 'Monk' on my blog only the other day and i was doing a search on 'Monk' and came across this. God Bless.
I’m only watching the shows on DVD myself (no cable), and am waiting breathlessly for Disc 1 of Season 2 to come from Netflix. But I’d be astounded if Sharona and Monk ever “dated.” Sure there’s some affection there, but it’s like that of a mother for her learning-disabled child.
I am watching the new episode right now and (spoiler time) it was ruined, ruined, ruined with the birth control bit.
I wouldn’t say it was ruined, but that one little exchange was uncalled-for. There should’ve been some other way to show both his detective skills and total lack of social skills. Other than that, I liked it, and there seems to be some chemistry between Adrian and Natalie. No apparent shark sightings yet!
I agree that it didn’t ruin the show. One can’t expect every character in every show to share Catholic morality, and Monk himself didn’t endorse contraception. In fact, the segment made the point that some things should not be discussed in front of children–which is itself a positive message.
Of course, my scrupulous side says they shouldn’t have filmed this in front of a child actress, but if you notice the way that the scene is cut, Monk himself is the only actor in the shot when contraception is mentioned. Thus, as far as we know, he was the only actor on the set when the line was uttered, and the child actor ostensibly present was, in fact, not present.
That’s how television works.
This was actually my first Monk episode and I found it pretty dang hy-larious. My favorite little vignette was
-SPOILER ALERT-
when he could not live with the layout of the bulletin board in the school hallway and had to re-arrange it. Just a small scene, but priceless.
I don’t know how far behind you in the series we are over here (England), but I found this Saturday’s episode incredibly funny…it was Benji’s birthday party….Monk buys Benji a …wait for it…’rock polisher’…and then suggest’s to Benji that they go outside (in the middle of Benji’s party) to find stones to polish…hilarious…even more sidespliting ~ Monk crouching down behind the breakfast bar while the party is in full riot…Sharona walks in to the kitchen for a glass of water and ask’s him if he’s playing a game with the children…he responds, nervously …”Yes,yes, i’m playing a game…i’m playing the game, “are they gone yet ?” !
God Bless.
Monk is dead. Long live the Monk.
Big fan but cannot understand the new nurse. She is not sexy (to me), not the opposite of Monk and just plain different.
Tony is Great but he is fettered by this change. Why would you change a working percision machine?
It was good like it was, and this is pissing me off.
