A group of mad scientists have created a black hole on Earth.
In New York!
Well, New York has been a black hole for a long time, so I guess it’s appropriate.
They reportedly smashed streams of gold atom nuclei into each other "at the speed of light" (or, at least, so says the press) to create THE BLACK HOLE OF NEW YORK.
Now, this is a rather doubtful story, but assuming that there is any truth at all to the report, what I want to know is: HOW DARE THEY CREATE SUCH A THING???
I mean: We don’t know enough about such phenomena to allow their creation on Earth willy-nilly!!!
One black hole can ruin your whole reality.

Author: Jimmy Akin
Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

Well that turned out better than the plot of “The Void” (a fairly good SF move that starred SG1’s Amanda Tapping and Highlander’s Adrain Paul.)

Ah, finally a compromise that both sides of the global warming debate can live with: switching from fossil fuels to Romulan warp cores. The global-warming skeptics will like it because of its enormous power generating capabilities and the environmentalist wackos will be split from within by the large number of Trekkies enthusing over it. A win-win situation, until the planet gets sucked into a black hole that is.
‘Scuse me, but isn’t it at least remotely possible that the our whole planet could be squeezed down to the size of a tic-tac in, like, a few nano-seconds?
Just asking.
Sorry, that should be Tic-Tac.
“Tic-Tac”
True, but then everything would be within reach.
I guess that would result in a really big group hug. Or should that be a really small group hug?
Wow. All explanations aside (that some black holes were created during the Big Bang, that black holes inhabit the nuclei of every major galaxy, that black holes only form after the collapse of supermassive stars, etc.) it seems that any nitwit can make one in a lab.
What’s next, dilithium crystals?
If we have artificial black holes, we don’t need dilithium crystals. Imagine, a Mr. Singularity in every house. There will no more need to run electrical wires!
Actually, since dilithium is purely imaginary we won’t be seeing it any time soon. In fact, when it was first introduced (I think in Mudd’s Women, but I could be wrong) it was called Lithium. Then the makers of the show found out there actually was an element called Lithium and it couldn’t possibly do what they said it did, so they changed it to dilithium.
There was no mention of any Hawking Radiation observed when the black hole evaporated, so I would hesitate to claim that this was a black hole. Still, if a black hole was created, it raises some interesting questions about what is happening in the high edge of the Earth atmosphere, where high-energy cosmic rays impact the Van Allen belts.
“What is that giant sucking sound I hear?”
🙂
I can’t be bothered with anything lately. My mind is like a fog. I’ve just been hanging out not getting anything done. I’ve more or less been doing nothing.

Today was a complete loss, but oh well. I don’t care. So it goes. Nothing going on , but shrug. Not much on my mind these days. Such is life.
