Accepting abundance

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. My wife and I took a child-birth class at a Catholic hospital several years ago. In one session, I believe when she was talking about breastfeeding, the instructor talked about the timing of when you could safely go back onto birth control (the pill), as if it were the everyday normal thing to do. I complained about it on the evaluation form. What a lost opportunity to promote natural family planning classes (necessitating getting some scheduled first) and influencing our society towards the good.
I should have asked why the excess hormones were to be avoided when breastfeeding but perfectly fine and healthy for my wife to take every day.
