Author: Jimmy Akin
Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

Interesting…. the embedded player works in my IE 8.0.7600.16385, but doesn’t in my mozilla 4.0.3. Doesn’t even display right in my mozilla (is mostly obscured by a thick black border). If anyone has suggestions for how to fix my mozilla, that would be great. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy it on IE.
Jimmy, will you be posting the subject of future podcasts or will we need to listen to learn the topic?
P.S. sound quality is great!
Joe: Could you try it again in Mozilla and let me know if it works? The border should be gone.
Didn’t realize I didn’t have the episode title here. I’ve been putting it everywhere else. Will post it here, too (and in the future).
Glad the sound is coming across well!
You have nice red hair.
I have Firefox 5.0 and it’s working well with that.
I’ve been listening to Catholic answers live for about 10 years now. I haven’t called in once, but love every show of yours, Karl’s and Tim’s. I especially love Q & A both Catholic and Non-Catholic.
I haven’t listened to this yet but I am definitely looking forward to it. I did find, to sign up to I-tunes you have to watch closely how you click on “subscribe to I tunes”. You have to specifically click “Click Here”
Thanks for all the wonderful work you are doing. You have made tremendous strides in our way of defending and explaining our faith.
Thanks!!!
Coolio. 😎 Now, between this, and Catholic Answers, I just need to find enough time in the day to listen to them all!
I subscribed on itunes, and am listening on itunes as I comment. The beginning background music volume was too high and overwhelmed your vocals. Also – even after the music faded out, your vocal level seemed very low – I had to crank my MacBook’s volume up all the way to get a comfortable listening level – this with the itunes volume all the way up, too. Anyway — looking forward to your future podcasts!
Brian: Thanks for the feedback! It helps me to have detailed information about how it’s sounding to other folks.
Congrats, Jimmy. Wish you great success with the new podcast!
This is awesome! I’m looking forward to it. All the best Mr Akin, and I’ve mentioned you in my daily Rosary and am always thankful to God for you and the wealth of knowledge you share. God Bless!
Wooo!!! Now to further the cause for evangelization Jimmy will now be producing bobbleheads of himself only distrubuted to the first 100 question submissions.
Right?
Um. . . . Riiiight. Yeah. That’s it!
I love listening to you! You have a nice voice, and I feel you can give more information over a podcast than over something typed.
Praying for you, your blog, and now your podcast!
Great Show Jimmy! I am looking forward to the future pods- God Bless
Sorry my last post sounded so critical Jimmy – glad you took it in the manner it was intended! Thought you’d like technical feedback. Looking forward to your future podcasts.
I haven’t listened yet, but I’ll say right now that I thank you for giving it a seperate feed. Makes my life as a would-be listener (who also reads your blog in places/times when listening to a podcast wouldn’t work) much easier.
I fully expect to enjoy it.
LOVE IT !!! Just listened to it with Safari, worked great with the embedded player.
I’m all for bobble heads too….;-)
Jimmy, It works in my firefox 4 now. (I know I said mozilla, but I meant firefox.) Thanks!
JohnE, I didn’t know there was a firefox 5. I’ll have to look that up.
I would totally buy a Jimmy Akin bobblehead.
Until I get a chance to listen to the podcast and provide some actual, constructive feedback, this will have to suffice as my contribution to the conversation.
Okay. Sorry for the double post, but here are my thoughts:
At first, I wondered how this was going to be different from your appearances on Catholic Answers Live, and the first thing that struck me is that this format gives you time to go in much more depth. I approve. You’re also not dealing with the back-and-forth with the callers, which means you can’t ask for clarification on the fly, but it does mean that you can focus on your answer rather than caller objections. Besides, since your readers aren’t being told to keep it quick because a break is coming up, they can outline exactly what they want to ask beforehand. (Especially those who submit their question in writing.)
I like the length of the podcast, too. I think you could go longer, maybe up to half an hour. But a lot of the podcasts I listen to just go on way too long. (Two hours is too long. Good thing CAL breaks their shows into two hour-long segments!) Others seem just a little too short. (Fifteen minutes long, because you’re in a hurry and we’re not that smart.) This one seems just right.
As for the actual topic, boy, you sure didn’t start with an easy one! You were very thorough; I can’t think of anything I would add. (Not that an addition from me would be of much value compared to a professional apologist, but still…)
Anyway, nice work! I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of podcasts.
hey jim: why did the church fathers say that the transfiguration was on Mt. Tabour. Raymondking08@gmail.com
Oh: also, I would like to know what where the comments that St. Augustine, in his works, corrected? raymondking08@gmail.com
Hey Jimmy, what is the schedule for the podcast? as in, when do new ones air?
Current plans are for once a week with release date on the weekend (usu. Sat or Sun, depending on when I get it done.) there may be exceptions.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
