Author: Jimmy Akin
Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live." Ha, embiggen. It’s beautiful, Jimmy!
When’s it coming out? I really want this book…
I am looking forward to reading the book – probably on Kindle to save postage – but I don’t like the cover.
+JMJ+ I like the cover, Jimmy. My parish priest will be giving a talk on the new Mass settings soon, so I am really excited about learning more.
“Embiggen” That’s one of my favorite words! Of course some people don’t like it but I find it perfectly cromulent.
I wonder what the mainstream press will say about the subject when it rises to their level of consciousness.
Is it possible to get the book without the cover pre-torn? 😉
The mainstream press will probably be confused.
Then they will interview and air the opinions of those who are against these changes and present a horrible atmosphere of how the Church is returning to the ‘dark ages’ etc. and focus on the division this will bring between liberal and orthodox factions.
I hope I’m wrong.
How will this effect those of us that assist exclusively at the Traditional Latin Mass I wonder?
Not at all.
Pachyderminator,
Thank the Good Lord!
and thank you for the info.
I was worried that they would try to mess with the ordinary parts of the Missal of ’62.
And its a perfect exposition on the Sacrificial nature of Holy Mass as is.
Looking forward to buying an EPUB version some day.
You’re welcome, Dan. No Latin text is being changed, either in the ’62 or the Novus Ordo missal, only the English translation of the latter. (I’m not sure whether it applies only to the United States or the whole English-speaking church – perhaps I should read the book.)
And to the spammers above: you suck.
Been waiting a long time for this to come out.
Want to buy the book. BUT… the cover looks about ten years old and is a pedestrian design, especially given what else is being put out. If this is a Catholic Answers book, it is especially disheartening: Shea’s ‘Behold’ books were artfully packaged. This, well, it ranks up there with ‘The Missionary Catechism’ as a cover that looks like a Photoshop Training Manual exercise. Sorry to be blunt, but your material deserves better.
I am definitely getting a copy. I need to know what has been changed. Thanks for posting!
The best way to keep fit is to go in for sports.
