"It may be that the greatest proof of the effectiveness of social disapproval is its demonstrated ability to turn on itself." –Judith Martin
How true it is that the only socially disapproved sin these days is Social Disapproval, which is sometimes indiscriminately referred to as Judgmentalism.
Who is Judith Martin? You may know her better as Miss Manners.

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

Right. The only unforgiveably rude thing would be to point out the rudeness of another.
I didn’t think much of Miss Manners right at first… I thought she was probably a gimmick columnist who would fade quickly, but she has surprising depth and I find I agree with her the large majority of the time, which makes her clearly a GENIUS.
There are actually two socially disapproved sins: Social Disapproval and Smoking. Outspoken Catholics who enjoy a smoke are a sorry lot indeed.
You got that right, JCP. If my state ever passes a law that prohibits me from smoking cigars in my own vehicle, then ever time I drive, it will look like a pope was just elected.
Isn’t the condemnation of “Judgmentalism” itself judgmental?

A petty concern with constancy is the hobgoblin of little minds. . . .
OTOH, we little minds have A LOT more fun than you have been led to believe.
God is the most descriminating being ever.
25:41. Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand:
Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
Tunc dicet et his qui a sinistris erunt discedite a me maledicti in ignem aeternum qui paratus est diabolo et angelis eius
You can’t get more discriminating than that.
So discriminating is not wrong.

Yeah, who am I to sit in judgment of another’s soul? It’s not like I am St. Padre Pio or anything, right? Who knows? Maybe Wayne Moore had it coming? 🙂
