Mystery Photo Revealed

Dealy_plaza1The mystery photo I published earlier today was of the site of President Kennedy’s assassination.

The X on the pavement marks the spot where the fatal headshot occurred.

I visited Dealey Plaza recently during my trip to Dallas to give a talk on The Da Vinci Code.

During the talk, I explained that in the novel Dan Brown portrays the Catholic Church as conducting the largest conspiracy in world history.

Then I added, "Now, I don’t know if y’all have had much experience with conspiracy theories . . . here in Dallas . . . but I’m here to tell you about Dan Brown’s."

The audience appreciated the line a lot since Dallas has been the epicenter of conspiracy theories for the last 40 years as a result of the Kennedy assassination.

The last time I was in the area, I got to visit the 6th Floor Museum of the former Texas School Book Depository (where Lee Harvey Oswald is alleged to have shot the president from) and which presents the Warren Commission version of events.

This time I got to go to another, rival museum a couple of blocks away: the Conspiracy Museum, which presents or tries to present . . . well . . . every other side.

It also has displays on other alleged conspiracies, including the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Abraham Lincoln (the last of which is known for certain to have been an actual conspiracy, though the question of who was behind it is still debated).

I also got some better pictures of Dealey Plaza than those I posted last time, so I hope to post those soon.

In addition, I took a number of other photos on the trip and will be posting some new mystery photos soon.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

re: Jimmy getting smacked by traffic.
    Dear Lord:
As you can plainly see, Jimmy Akin insisted on standing in the middle of a three lane traffic zone, taunting me to save him. I diverted three pick-up trucks onto the grass, and warned Jimmy that I was not prepared to act openly anymore.
I snapped the attached picture in the hopes that I could lure Jimmy back to the sidewalk to “proof” the shot (Jimmy is –was– a stickler about his photos and had examined many previous shots I made of him this trip) but my ploy failed.
I am sorry this turned out as they did. I hope this will not prevent my being assigned to protect someone else. I don’t think this one was my fault.
Yours truly, Jimmy’s ex Guardian Angel.
PS: Yes, I did tell Jimmy that white cowboy hats and Michael Jackson gloves were NOT protection against automobiles.

  2. Man! I would love to see that presentation. It’s not on video anywhere, is it?

  3. DANG IT! Why did I not know you were in town?!? I have your blog syndicated in my aggregator and I listen to Catholic Answers almost every day, and I heard nothing of it.
    Your publicist stinks. Pppthh.

  4. Sorry, Cynthia (and others)!
It wasn’t mentioned here on the blog in advance, but we did mention it twice on Catholic Answers Live–once the week before the event and then on the day of the event itself.
In fact, I did last week’s show from my hotel room in Dallas, just before leaving to go over to the event.
I’d love to come back to Dallas, though (almost anywhere in Texas puts me within spitting distance of getting to see my kinfolk), so better luck next time!

  5. Alight bit tangental: any new news on the upcoming secret project, Jimmy? A scrap of news?

  6. I could have SWORN (if it were allowed) that you have posted this picture before in another article where you mention being at the spot of Kennedy’s assassination. Right along with the same X marking the spot. Am I correct or do I suddenly have the ability to see into the future?
    :-<

  7. Dear Jimmy,
After hearing you on CA today (June 28th) I thought, dang he sounds downright grumpy. Then I considered: 2 Q & A shows in the same week, midweek trip to Dallas with sightseeing, scientific experiments, AND oh, yeah, a speaking engagement somewhere in there, and all the blogging you did before and after, I admit…
    MEA CULPA.
    JIMMY, YOU ROCK!!
(I hope you get overtime. I did up my contribution this year)
