JewishEncyclopedia.com

Welcome news for anyone with an interest in Judaica! The Jewish Encyclopedia has gone online and is a free service:

"This online version contains the unedited contents of the original encyclopedia. Since the original work was completed almost 100 years ago, it does not cover a significant portion of modern Jewish History (e.g., the creation of Israel, the Holocaust, etc.). However, it does contain an incredible amount of information that is remarkably relevant today."

SEE THE SITE.

(Nod to Modern Orthodox Woman for the link. MOW also notes that JE.com is soliciting help in updating the encyclopedia, an effort that could lead to "the beginning of a Jewish Wikipedia.)

By the way, for any who may be unaware of it, the original Catholic Encyclopedia is also online. Now we just have to get started on a Catholic Wikipedia….

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Didnt Jimmy point this site out at one time to help show that the doctrine of purgatory was not exactly a newfangled doctrine dreamt up by Catholics?

  2. T-Shirt Hell is a very bad site. Don’t go to it unless you’re not too concerned about the near occasion of sin (naked people and highly offensive shirts.)

  3. Well, the regular Wikipedia could stand some Catholic help. I looked up “martyr” and found that it basically stated that except for heretics and Catholic/Protestant infighting, Christians stopped suffering martyrdom between the Emperor Constantine and the twentieth century.
I improved it somewhat but it could still use some work.

  4. “I think there’s also an Orthodox Wiki for our Eastern Orthdox brother and sisters.”
We only have ONE Orthodox brother now?? What happened to all the others?
The Jewish encyclopedia is an EXCELLENT site. I used its many entries on the topic of “wine” to convince an Evangelical (married to a Mormon) that the imbibing of wine is not a sin, and in many cases, good, proper, and even recommended. By showing beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jews drank wine, and by drawing from instances in the gospel connecting Jesus and wine (wedding at Cana, Passover, accused of being a drunkard), I was able to convince her it was NOT “grape juice.”

  5. Buncha masons,
progenies viperarum quis demonstravit vobis fugere a futura ira
That is all I think when it comes to Jewish dictionary. Its not racism, its the the jews that are still like the evil ones who committed deicide. They are truly serpents, who control and poison from the shadows.
I can’t wait till all those masons are exposed in ies Illa
