HEADLINE: Man marries Hindu Goddess but is unable to slip on wedding band….
I don’t suppose “No! It is I…” would be appropriate for this one…
It was wonderful meeting you. Here’s my phone number …
That statue is actually quite beautiful… I wonder about the devotion that inspired it… Would that we American Catholics fund such lavish gifts for the beauty of the Church’s buildings etc.
After Mardi Gras, the parade floats attend an outdoor Ash Wednesday Mass to get marked with ashes. Here you see the priest handing her equipment to a Sacramental Float Minister.

Any idea where and when that picture was taken? I don’t see a link to an article or anything. I guess it’s recent and in South Asia.

Unaware of the typo in the job order, Pedro makes the finishing touches on the 40m statue, while the purchasers in Japan excitedly prepare the table they will use to hold the 40cm statue they ordered.
That statue is actually quite beautiful…
Oh dear. De gustibus non est disputandum.
There is no disputing about (or accounting for) about. To me, this is as tacky as those awful “Precious Moments” statuettes/collectibles, or those paintings of big-eyed children on black velvet.
I guess I spent too many years studying medieval and Renaissance religious art…..
Oops – should be “There is no disputing about (or accounting for) taste.”

I assume you’re joking. That looks like something they put way too much effort into just to burn down. To me, it does look like one of those big Hindu statues, but I really have no idea.
I just looked at the Yahoo pictures and it says that it is from that Spanish festival. Really a strange thing to do – making a huge statue and then burning it down. And they cost as many as $75,000 for just one? It’s insane.
How much do you think the floats for the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade cost? Or the Rose Bowl parade? Or Mardi Gras ones? They ain’t cheap, and most of ’em get destroyed after one day’s use. Doing it with fire is just faster.
Who cares about fast? What about the cool flames. ha ha.
Oh dear. De gustibus indeed. It is a beautiful statue. The ornamentation in particular reminds me of things I’ve seen in Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches.
“It is a beautiful statue.”
Depends on your definition of what “is” is!
