2006 Catholic Blog Awards

This is the 2006 Catholic Blog Award nominations week!

YEE-HAW!!!

This year I actually learned about the nominations week in time to note it on the blog, so here goes.

GO HERE TO NOMINATE YOUR FAVORITE CATHOLIC BLOGS FOR AWARDS.

The categories are:

  • Most Informative Blog
  • Most Humorous Blog
  • Most Bizarre Blog Entry
  • Best Presentation
  • Most Devotional
  • Best Blog By A Group
  • Best Blog By A Man
  • Best Blog By A Woman
  • Most Insightful Blog
  • Most Theological Blog
  • Best Blog By A Priest Or Religious
  • Best Blog By A Seminarian
  • Best Political Analysis
  • Best Apologetics Blog
  • Most Intellectual Blog
  • Best Blog Design
  • Best New Blog
  • Best Social Commentary Blog

Nominations will be accepted until this Friday, so be prompt if you’d like to participate.

I also hope that y’all’ll remember your humble JimmyAkin.Org when you nominate.

Out of an old fashioned sense of chivalry, I will not be nominating JA.O for anything, though I can see several categories that strike me as plausible.

(One category I hadn’t expected was Most Bizzare Blog Entry. I’m sure there are some real oddballs in the archives here.)

I will be nominating others for things, and may make some recommendations. F’rinstance: I’d recommend Southern Appeal for Best Political Analysis. I’ll have to think about other possible recommendations.

In the meantime, THE COMBOX IS OPEN FOR DISCUSSION!

(NOTE: I may have this blog entry hang at the top of the blog for a while, so new posts may appear underneath it.)

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. In addition to JA.O…
I have enjoyed Barbara Nicolosi’s blog for her perspective on the arts.
    Amy Welborn.
    Mark Shea.
Ed Peters is so reliably orthodox, thorough and informative that his canon law entries are like little encyclopedia articles.
And Eric Scheske seems like someone I’d like to sit down and have a beer with.
    Or two beers…

  2. What about best blog by woman, you say?, Jimmy is in touch with his feminine side, so he rates a nomination, and as for seminarian, well, he’s a student of life in the Lord. Doesn’t that count? Go Jimmy.

  3. Out of an old fashioned sense of chivalry, I will not be nominating JA.O for anything
Does this mean it’s possible to nominate your own?

  4. Will we get to see streamed footage of Jimmy walking down the virtual red carpet? I think that would be hilarious. What does everybody think?

  5. Go, Jimmy! Go, Jimmy!
And, yes, we want the red carpet treatment complete with Joan and Melissa Rivers insulting you about your choice of cowboy boots!

  6. So would JA O qualify for consideration in “Best Blog by a Man” and “Best Blog by a Group”? Or just one and if so, which one?

  7. so I’m confused – does every blog that gets nominated become elligible for votes? or do you need to reach a certain number of nominatiosn to be elligible for votes?
anyway, why don’t they have a category for “catholic youth” blog? I have to be eligible for something! (best new blog seems like too much competition)…

  8. I would like to see Tim J. suggestion as a category:
Blogger you would most like to have a beer (or two) with.

  9. Don’t forget to consider The Cafeteria is Closed. It at least belongs in the New Blog category since it begain in april of last year. This guy is very good and posts quite a bit.

  10. Actually, the Catholic blogger I’d most like to have a beer with would be Jimmy (and will soon, God willing)!
Eric Scheske sounds like an interesting guy, though.

  11. Does anyone know when the voting is supposed to begin? The website states Feb. 7? Did I miss it?
    Take care and God bless,
    Inocencio
