Godless Pro-Lifers

Given the reproductive preferences of many atheists, the atheist dating service I linked earlier is not likely to be a major threat to civilization.

I mean, it’s not like it’s going to produce a world awash in atheists or anything.

Mankind always has been and will remain a religious species.

Some atheists, though, have come to recognize at least part of the truth of the pro-child mentality that is more common in religious circles.

Some are even pro-life.

A reader writes:

I found an interesting site devoted to the furtherance of the Pro-Life
movement. It’s run by Matthew Wallace, aka the Compleat Heretic. It’s the
official site for the Atheist and Agnostic Pro-Life League, or AAPL.

It’s really interesting to read the "Nontheist postion" and then the
"Pro-Life position" of each member.

Indeed!

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. When I was in college, the treasurer of our cmapus pro-life group was an atheist. When we attended a pro-life rally, some pro-abortion protesters started bugging us, and I heard the following exchange….
“You’re trying to force your religious beliefs on other people. ”
    “I’m an atheist.”
Blank stare, then an outraged, “NO, YOU’RE NOT!”

    *ROTFL* That’s hilarious.
I’ve got several pro-life atheist and agnostic acquaintances, myself.
Some pro-life leaders are either atheists or agnostics, too. I’m pretty sure Doris Gordon of Libertarians for Life is an atheist.

  3. It’s funny how Agnosticism has become the Atheism of the times. I suspect the modern Agnostic is just an Atheist who like to hang out in the back of the world view, near the rear exit. Just in case.
I was struck by the number of exceptions and relatively low number of total abolitionists. One person made an exception for rape, but not for incest. That struck me as odd.
