Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. Our Miss Katelyn
Jimmy Akin post on a note from Katelyn Sills…
I heard most of the interview – it was very informative and Katelyn and her mother were very sincere, and sympathetic. I confess I hadn’t read the details of the story closely before hearing the interview today – so I’m not sure that I would recognize any new info.
Some of the information that struck me though:
They noted that neither they nor the Bishop publicized the fact that the teacher was let go because of her volunteering at Planned Parenthood, and that the school could simply have dismissed her without going into details and even allowing the impression that it was not disciplinary but that she was leaving by mutual decision (if I understood them correctly) but instead the school purposely drew public attention to the reason for the dismissal.
They also said that they had turned to the Bishop for mediation to lift Katelyn’s suspension so that she would not have difficulty getting into another school. But, so far they have heard nothing from the Bishop’s office.
It seems to me that if the Bishop could intervene to order the firing of the teacher – he ought to be able to deal with the school’s open defiance of the intent of his direction (by publicizing the reasons for the dismissal, and by punishing Katelyn). Notably Katelyn and her mother remained hopeful that the Bishop just hadn’t had an opportunity (due to the recent Synod, and the upcoming holiday) to address the school’s actions subsequent to dismissing the teacher.
