Steven Spielberg Invents Primitive Holodeck?

Maybe. . . .

GET THE STORY.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. “you will physically be inside the experience, which will surround you top, bottom, on all sides.” — sounds as close as a holodeck as we are likely to get in our lifetime — will it be a theatre for one? Or use a virtual reality helmet? Or what?

  2. Now, if Spielberg will only rig the theater with things like fog, vibration effects and stuff, like William Castle did.
If you aren’t familiar with William Castle, he used specially rigged theaters (vibrating seats, etc…) as a way to promote movies, mostly low-budget thrillers. He inspired the movie “Matinee”, starring John Goodman.
One of the movies Castle promoted this way was called “The Tingler” and starred Vincent Price.
