Mystery Photo

What’s this?

Okay, it’s a picture of my foot.

But where specifically is my foot (generalizations don’t count) and why did I go there?

Therein lies a tale.

More tomorrow.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. My cursor revealed the title of your photo. It seems to be one of the beaches near where you live. The depth perception would suggest you are at the edge of a precipice and looking over it (but, then again, I have poor depth perception). Assuming the original premise, could it be inferred you are on the edge of something in your life?

  2. You were standing by the waters edge contemplating how long it would take you to swim over to England so I could cook you a nice Sunday dinner -Non Atkins style.
    God bless.

  3. What kind of boots are those. I see they are actual cowboy boots as opposed to western apparel boots. That is, they are pointy enough that you could crush a cockroach in the corner.

    And I’d do it, too!
I think the boots are Tony Lamas, though I’ve had them so long that they’ve been re-soled and the innards don’t have a legible maker’s mark on them. I’m about to get a new pair, and they too will be real cowboy boots.
    Salton Sea.
    Yes!
Ben has guessed the answer to the first question: I *am* at the Salton Sea in this picture.
. . . But why? (The latter will be almost impossible to guess.)

  5. See, this is really funny ‘cos, when I first read the entry, I was thinkin’ the picture was a close-up of your boot covered in something – couldn’t figure out what the little black thingie was. (I’ve been on vacation, my internet eyes haven’t returned yet!)
    Can’t wait for the story.

  6. I got it! I got it! Jimmy is at salton beach to stop the larval form of Mothra coming ashore and destroying all fo Riverside County!!!!!!
    Am I close?

  7. Jimmy is at the Salton Sea researching the construction of a salt bridge across the sea thereby creating the worlds largest battery.

  8. And I’d do it, too!
But what about Catholic Social Teachingâ„¢? Whine. Don’t you know that Pope Benedict has condemned the murder of God’s precious creatures? Groan. What part of “thou shalt not kill” don’t you neocons understand? Moan. Shouldn’t this be a sixth “non-negotiable” issue?

  9. BillyHW-
In the words of Elron McKenzie – “Don’t kill bugs, eh?”.
I think it is probably okay to kill bugs as long as you are not wearing a seamless garment.

  10. You went to the beach…to double check the story about “San Agustin” (?)….
Did you find the boy still pouring sea water in to the little hole?

  11. I was thinkin’ the picture was a close-up of your boot covered in something – couldn’t figure out what the little black thingie was.
I think what you’re thinking of is the leg of my pants. (I was wearing black denim jeans that day, though most of the pairs I own are blue denim.)

To dispose of your old motor oil?

  13. ..I actually did pay more attention than usual, given that introduction. The flight to Providence is less than 90 minutes..!
