Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live." I saw a music video by Three Doors Down in reflection of Hurricane Katrina. After watching it, I went online to Catholic Relief Services and was prompted to go to their sister organization, Catholic Charities, and I offered some monetary support for the victims.
My donation might be small, but I hope it can help at least one victim to get through the day.
Catholic Charities works inside the USA, and Catholic Relief Services outside. Hence the prompt.
I’ve set up a wiki with info about Hurricane Katrina. This is for survivors as well as those wanting to help out.
You can find the wiki at: http://katrinahelp.pbwiki.com/
Another way to help is to send money and gift cards (grocery and houseware stores) directly to the LSU Catholic Student Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Baton Rouge has doubled in population in 1 week and the priest at the student center is working to feed and minister to the spiritual needs of the people showing up at his door.
There is a controversy brewing because Thomas Nelson donated (gasp!) BIBLES to the relief effort. Go here and follow the links.
