Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live." I guess it’s kind of implied that that discount religion already exists…
As a no-longer-member-of-the-Epicopal-Church-USA, I can assure you that discount religions have already been invented. Ping, by the way.
Kinda funny. But Mr. Adams, from what I’ve read of and by him, is nearly Richard Dawkins-like in his disdain for religion and only slightly less contemptuous of the very idea of ‘god’.
I think he meant the strip has a critique of ‘religion’ and not just ‘discount’ religion.
bad joke alert… I think he discounts ALL religion, and religious beliefs.
Mike, I’ve read a number of Scott Adam’s books and they, along with his humor, have some of his theological perspective. Yes, he has a distain for traditional religions and likely most organized religion. He is a pretty new-age kind of guy. However, I’m not so sure he discounts the existance of gods (possibly plural).
Just trying to keep the facts straight.
Just as an FYI (to expose my perspective) When I saw it in the paper, I thought it was funny. Yeah, he may have some weird ideas of the nature of the universe, but when he exposes a reasonable and funny thought, it’s still funny.
