RESCATE Stays Home!

Good news for all those who complained to World Youth Day officials about the pope-criticizing Argentinian rock band RESCATE, which was scheduled to play at World Youth Day. . . .

They ain’t comin’!

WYD cancelled their appearance following the thousands of complaints that followed their disrespectful remarks regarding B16.

GET THE STORY.

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. I don’t know why, but this good news surprises me. I guess I’m a bit worn by the anti-Catholicism I seem to so frequently encounter, and don’t expect things like this to happen.
On the other hand, if Köln (Cologne) has any say in what goes on, it would follow that WYD will be careful to make this Catholic-friendly. This is a Catholic region of Germany. (Lutherans more prevalent in the North, Catholics more prevalent in the South).
Is anyone going to this event? My husband and I intended to, but don’t know anymore if we can make it due to his work schedule.

  2. Thanks be to God! I didn’t expect them to take action, since WYD is so close, but that is great.
May God bless that band and help them come to the fullness of the faith they believe in.

  3. They claim their remarks were taken “out of context” and that is exactly the point. To presume that the existence of the pope somehow interferes with a Catholic’s personal relationship with God is WAAAY our of context.
As in the only people who believe that are Protestants who are either dangerously ignorant about or hostile to Catholicism.
If you wish not to be misunderstood, then perhaps it would be best for you not to presume what people of other faiths believe.
    Rescate in Peace

Isn’t Cologne the gay capital of Germany or something?
But then again, as with the choice of Toronto in 2002, JPII has been known to take some risks.
