Prayer Request

There is a young, college-age gentleman who has been a friend of Catholic Answers for a number of years and who used to work there.

He’s been sick since January and been having excruciating pain in his neck and abdomen. This morning, starting at 8 a.m. Pacific time (11 a.m. Eastern), he is going to be having a thyroid biopsy.

I don’t normally make prayer requests here on the blog, but I’d ask folks to keep him in prayer. The biopsy happens today and then he’ll get the results on the 20th.

Thanks, folks. I appreciate it.

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. This was a tragedy of great proportion which should have never happened. Two lessons for us come to mind. The first – to prevent harm, we must be knowledgeable and aware of the operating restrictions of any high tech equipment we operate. For this purpose, I would include the human body as high tech equipment. As Dirty Harry said “…a man’s got to know his limitations…”
The second lesson is use of careful discretion and judgment in everything we do. This is well described by Meister Eckhart: “…The first (power of the soul) is called “rational,” and it is discretion, and on it you ought to wear a golden ring, which is the light, a divine light, with which your powers of discretion should be illuminated…”

  2. I’m really sorry Jimmy and folks, I meant to post my prior remarks about the airplane crash. Jimmy, I will hold your friend close in my prayers.
Also, this error shows the naked truth about being careful with high-tech equipment.

  3. I have the Mass this morning with the parish school–last day of the school year. I will uphold this prayer intention and all the prayer intentions “present” in the blog by way of you who participate here.

  4. My wife has filed for divorce. I am praying for reconciliation for our
marriage and to have our family restored. My wife’s name is Beth Cox. My
children are Blake and Maci. Please pray for my wife and family. I love
them very much. Can you please place us on your prayer chain. The
effectual fervent prayers of a righteous person availeth much.

  5. I will help people who are alcoholics and drug addicts. This is the motive that I need plenty more belief, plenty more power of prayer and more Holy Ghost with me.
