Of Course, This Is Totally Unscientific, But . . .

. . . I scored well on an unscientific IQ test.

Your IQ Is 140

Your Logical Intelligence is Genius
Your Verbal Intelligence is Genius
Your Mathematical Intelligence is Genius
Your General Knowledge is Genius

The questions involved more reasoning than I thought they would. It ain’t just a joke (as I thought it might be). Still not the real thing, though.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Well, I learned I am not as smart as Jimmy (actually, I already knew that) Mine was 115 and I only got genius on verbal.
Above average on Logical and Mathematical and exceptional on General Knowledge.
Not bad for a middle aged woman with four young children.

  2. I used to be a psychometrist (I tested patients) and thought I’d throw something out there: When a patient couldn’t stay with us long enough for the full version of the WAIS, we’d give an abbreviated version, which was sometimes limited to only the verbal section. The verbal section score most closely agrees with the score if someone were to take the entire test. A good verbal score is something to be happy about 🙂

  3. Lurker: You were a psychometrist? You mean you used to handle objects to gain psychic impressions from them? Like a hanky that used to belong to a serial killer so you could get an impression of what the killer was like?
    Wow!

  4. I haven’t felt very smart in years (since we had kids?), so I have been a little skittish about I.Q. tests. I didn’t do too badly, though: 130 overall. I haven’t messed with prime numbers in a lo-o-o-ng time.

  5. everyone I know scored a genius in at least one thing. I hate to burst your bubble, Jimmy, but that sounds like a joke to me.

  6. 120 for me and 85 for my 10 year old. All these high IQs just go to show the exceptional intelligence of Jimmy’s readers.

  7. Jimmy: No! I had no idea that paranormal people who test were also calling themselves psychometrists. A psychometrist tests patients of psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, etc. I worked in the department of neuropsychology at a very large university. It has nothing to do with the paranormal. I hope you read this! Lurker

  8. Don’t worry. I knew what kind of psychometrist you meant. 😉 Just thought I’d mention the other, though.

  9. Psychometry . . . hmm . . . .
I’m getting a psychic impression that the readership of this blog is paranormal.

  10. Only 120
@ Geniuses,But my general knowledge is only Average.
Many of the questions were about the US – so I wonder of I lived in the US, or even North America, would I do any better?
Probably not – I’m really a bit thick.

  11. I seem to recall from somewhere that that when Italy surrendered in WWII, they then began to fight with the allies against the Germans? If so (and I’m not at all sure about this), would that make them a WWII ally for at least part of the war?

  12. I took it this morning and I do think I got all of the answers right, and got 140 also.
In contrast to the real WAIS (I.Q. Test), this thing doesn’t take age into account, and was a little easier than the real WAIS on someone my age (32 years old) than it might be on someone much younger or older. It’s not far off from my real WAIS score but a score could be way off if you’re nowhere near my age. It’s also not a timed test, as far as I can see. So just take it for what it is – fun, quick and dirty, but not scientific. If I had to guess how many points it could stray from a WAIS score if one were to take that, I’d say give or take up to 20 points depending on the person and other factors that this test leaves out.

  13. I got 135 — I missed #16 (about the languages).
I thought that the question about nickels and dimes was very clever — it requires you to think outside the box just a bit.

  14. I’ve gone and taken scientific IQ tests, as have some other people I know (psychology experiments in college).
While they always score higher on the online ones, I always score less. It’s kinda odd…

  15. Ed-
I believe that means that you are in the wrong profession. Would you consider a career in at-home child care? We have two lovely children…

  16. I did the more extensive test, the most scientific on the Net, (so they say) and scored 131. Apparently 111-128 is ‘above average’, so 129+ is probably ‘smart a*se’.
