Jimmy Vs. James: The Googlefight!

GooglefightI’ve noticed that fewer folks are calling me "James" these days. Even some of the holdouts are finally switching over.

So on a whim I decided to see whether this is true of the Internet (where a lotta folks encounter my name) by going to GoogleFight.Com and squaring off "Jimmy Akin" vs. "James Akin" (putting the terms in quotes so that the names are single search terms).

And the winner is . . .

Jimmy Akin! By a landslide!

YEE-HAW!!!

Things are as they should be!

In case you may not be familiar with GoogleFight, it’s a service that lets you square off two search terms against each other and see which is indexed more times by Google.

For example, when George W. Bush fights Bin Laden on GoogleFight, he whips his butt with 23 million hits to the terrorist rat’s 7 million hits.

Similarly, God whips Satan. Burger King whips McDonalds. America whips Iraq. The United States whips France. The pen is mightier than the sword. And all is right in the world. (Mostly. Darth Vader does whip Luke Skywalker.)

STAGE A GOOGLEFIGHT!

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. “googlefight” vs “all comers”
the winner is …. “all comers” by a factor of 6

  2. “Catholicism” whips “Romanism” by an even bigger landslide. ๐Ÿ˜‰ 2,210,000 to 53,100

  3. Is it an offense against charity to point out that “Catholic” wins over “Protestant” by a factor of five?

  4. It may not solve the age old riddle over who came first, but the chicken beats (pun intended) the egg, 20.9 mill to 15.8 mill.

  5. Star Trek may be officially dead (or dormant), but it still handily beats Stargate SG-1.
    The tally:
    “Star Trek” – 7.24 million
    “Stargate SG-1” – 888,000

  6. Yes but “Star Wars” beats “Star Trek” by a factor of 4 (36.5M to 8.6M)
Surprisingly “Batman” beats “Superman” 13.6M to 4.3M.
And “Less Filling” beats “Tastes Great” 9 million to 5.3 million.

  7. Oh, I know plenty of people who post stuff on the web rather than work. Kind like, er, well, like I’m doing right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. “Sacred Music” mops up “Hootenany”
    991,000 to 8,000!
And “Novus Ordo” triumphs over “Tridentine Rite” 80,000 to 26,000

  9. OK, I did a three-way Googlefight (of sorts) between the three major freeways leading into downtown Pittsburgh.
“Parkway West” is the section of I-279 that starts from I-79, exit 59 and goes over Greentree Hill, then into downtown through the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
“Parkway East” is the name for the entire length of I-376, which runs from downtown Pittsburgh out to the PA Turnpike at Monroeville.
Facing these two off against each other, “Parkway West” wins, 110,000 to 96,000.
I faced the winner off against “Parkway North” – the part of I-279 that runs north from downtown, past St. Boniface Church (where they have an indult Tridentine Mass that I’ve occasionally attended), and merges into I-79 Northbound approaching Wexford. The Parkway North has a reversible HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane running from near the former site of Three Rivers Stadium north to – if memory serves – the junction with US 19.
Anyhoo, “Parkway North” beats “Parkway West”, 154,000 to 110,000.

  10. Cool! “butter” beats “margarine” by a sanity-affirming 9,460,000 to 1,150,000.
Life is just too short to use margarine.
    Mmmmm… butter…

  11. Apologies for the double-post. Apparently Alzheimer’s has set in to my old G-3.

  12. You’re right! The pen is mightier than the sword.
    Tiger is mightier than Longhorn,
    VHS is mightier than Betamax,
    CDs are better than Cassettes,
iPods are better than Dell DJs (by a long shot),
and LCDs are better than CRTs.
I found out a great new product comparison tool! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. “Objective Truth” beats “Subjective Truth”
    “Coke” is better than “Pepsi”
    “Athens” razes “Sparta”,
    “Japanese” harpoons “Whale”,
    “Ninja” slaughters “Samurai”,
The “Ayes” have it over the “Nays”,
    “Republican” out votes “Democrat”,
“Sean Connery” out Bonds “Roger Moore”,
And the “Dollar” out performs the “Ruble”, “Yen”, the “Pound”, and the “Euro”.
This may come as a shock to some, but “Augustinian” got more hits than “Thomistic” did, and in a surprising turn of events, “Sanity” beats out “Cthulhu”. I suppose things will remain this way… till the stars are right…
Also, nothing is mightier than Betamax! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Ruthann Logsdon (my maiden name) 282
Ruthann Zaroff (my married name) 572
I guess being married is better than being single!
    ‘thann

  15. And the truth marches on even in mathematics…
    1+1=2 has 108 million believers
    1+1=3 has 37.8 million believers
although in more advanced math, the harvest is still plenty:
    2+2=3 has 75 million.

  16. Hey, “Absolute Truth” beats “Relativism” 5,520,000 to 759,000! ๐Ÿ˜‰
