Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. The Mass at Saint Peter’s this morning was absolutely beautiful. How refreshing, for a change, to see the “Missa Normativa” celebrated in a nonabusive, reverent manner, and in keeping with the Church’s Tradition. An excellent example, I think, of legitimate development of the Roman Rite (compared to the Tridentine Mass).
    Cardinal Ratzinger’s homily was kick-@$$, too! And this despite the fact that I heard the choppy impromptu translation on FOXNEWS. I wish the celebrants for these Masses would just prepare an official English translation ahead of time, and have somebody fluent in English just read that over the air for English-speaking viewers. Oh well . . .
    Anyone know where this homily of Cardinal Ratzinger’s can be found online, in English?

  2. An excerpt of Cardinal Ratzinger’s Homily;
    Having a clear faith, based on the creed of the church, is often labeled today as a fundamentalism”
    “Whereas relativism, which is letting oneself be tossed and ‘swept along by every wind of teaching,’ looks like the only attitude acceptable to today’s standards”
    “We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as for certain and which has as its highest goal one’s own ego and one’s own desires.”
    GO Cardinal Ratzinger!!!
    God Bless.

  3. Cardinal Ratzingers “dictatorship of relativism” was right on target!!! My prayers are with the Cardinals.

  4. “Dictatorship of relativism” could become as much a household phrase as “culture of death” has become! Awesome. Thanks for the link from me, too, Drake. I usually rely on serindipty for those things, being a bear of very little brain. Must read the whole homily!
