HERE’S A STORY ABOUT SCIENTISTS CREATING ANIMAL-HUMAN HYBRIDS KNOWN AS CHIMERAS.
One of the planned experiments is to create a mouse with a brain made entirely of human neurons.
The scientist who wants to do it plans to abort the mouse before it is born, dissect it, and look for traces of human cognitive behavior.
And that’s only one of the freaky chimeras that’s been made or is on the drawing board!
Surprisingly, Canada has banned the creation of animal human chimeras!
Kudos to Canada for not rushing willy-nilly into this brave new world.
(NOTE: Catholic moral theology would not–as yet–say that all experimentation with combining human and animal cells or genes is automatically wrong, but it would caution that one needs to proceed carefully in this area and with a far more discretion than has been the norm among many experimenters.)
Chilling. It is my understanding that during the historical Dark Ages, many lived without any real understanding that their age was especially “dark.” My question: How do we know that future generations will not label this age a “dark” age?
Atomic bombs, labotomies, abortion, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, etc. We live in a world where scientists are so out of touch with the real, that Einstein’s colleagues in Coppenhagen can triumphantly proclaim that they KNOW the moon does NOT exist when nobody is looking at it! WHA-HUUUH???!
The very idea of studying human behavior by giving an animal human brain cells cries out a fundamental misunderstanding of human nature: we aren’t animals. We’re humans. That’s why we were cognizant enough to make the distinction and use a different word!
The cruel “science” of the culture of death does not bring light into some hitherto darkened aspect of human knowledge. Rather, it further obscures our understanding of fundamental questions like: What is a human being? In this sense, it ceases to be science.
“The Dark Ages” are a propaganda label that the Deists and atheists of the endarkenment gave to the Age of Faith.
If your electrical bill is higher than it should be, look for taps into rat-holes.
The rats of NIMH strike back!
Who knew Pinky & the Brain would be prophetic?
Seriously, this turned my stomach when I heard of it on Friday. Just does not sit well with me at all.
Just wait until Ole the Norway Rat tries to enter the priesthood.
It seems to me that ordinary people are naturally repulsed by this sort of thing. Apparently it takes years of (secularist) scientific training to make this innate revulsion go away. Reminds me of the song “Shock the Monkey”, by Peter Gabriel.
On a lighter note, it also puts me in mind of a hilarious bit from “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” where the MICE are the ones interested in looking at a HUMAN brain (that of Arthur Dent).
Benji Mouse: “But first it must be properly prepared…”
Arthur: “Prepared?”
Benji: “…prepared, examined… diced…”
Are you sure that Catholic moral theology doesn’t implicitly say anything about this? I would think it would be rather obvious.
In vitro babies are human and have souls. I would think that the church would say the same thing for clones. So what about a monkey that was genetically crossed with a human. What if there were enough human DNA to make a monkey as intelligent as you or I? Wouldn’t it be gravely sinful to tamper with creation in such a way that would deny a human body to a human soul? Of course it may be that it is impossible to have this situation but should we allow it to find out?
