More Podhoretz On World War IV

A LOOOOOONG (BUT INSIGHTFUL) ANALYSIS OF THE WAR ON TERROR, BUSH, AND THE FORCES ARRAYED AGAINST HIM DOMESTICALLY.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. I find it hard to take Podhortetz seriously when he attacks Pat Buchanan over his alleged anti-Semitism. This is the same Podhoretz who use to publish anti-Christian junk in Commentary by Hyam Maccoby (author of such classics as The Mythmaker: Paul and the Invention of Christianity).

  2. I also find it hard to take Podhortetz seriously when he basically sets up straw men and knocks them down. He misrepresents the realists critique of war, derisively and snidely dismisses Buchanan as anti-semetic, without engaging Buchanan’s objections to any meaningful degree and also misrepresents liberal institutionalists to a large degree.

  3. WW iv instead of WW 0? This war started roughly 1400 years ago when Mohammad and his clansmen butchered the Christians and Jews of Mecca and Medina, giving his new religion a power base. War has not ceased since that day. Today all along the border of the “10-40 Window” aka the dar al Islam, there is war.
