ALERT! Pray For Archbishop Basile Georges Casmoussa!

He’s the Syrian Archbishop of Mosul, Iraq and has been kidnapped by terrorists.

THE STORY.

UPDATE: PRAYERS ANSWERED!

THE ARCHBISHOP HAS BEEN RELEASED.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. I’ve been praying for him all morning since I heard the news. :-((
May the Lord hear our prayers and grant the safe return of the Archbishop.

  2. I was ecstatic to hear he had been freed. Quite frankly, I didn’t understand this, since the Pope was one of the most outspoken critics of the war.
Also, a point of clarification. Most of the media describes the Syrian Catholic Church as being a branch of the Roman Catholic Church. Isn’t this inaccurate? I thought it was merely the Catholic Church, and the Roman, Byzantine, Syrian, Maronite, etc. indicated the rite. Can anyone explain this?
