Perhaps Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko should try an "Olestra diet" to rid his body of dioxin.
It wouldn’t be the first time that
the "fake fat" product was used as an emergency agent to flush out
dioxin, one of a group of chlorinated hydrocarbons that are toxic,
lipophilic (attracted to fat) – and persistent in the environment and
animal tissues. About five years ago, two Austrian women suffering from
dioxin poisoning were given olestra snacks, which resulted in removal
of dioxin at 10 times the normal rate, according to some reports. In
an as-yet-unpublished study, researchers at the University of
Cincinnati School of Medicine, along with Trevor Redgrave at the
University of Western Australia, treated a patient with PCB toxicity
over a two-year period with olestra in the form of fat-free Pringles.
The patient’s chloracne disappeared and the PCB level in fat tissue
dropped dramatically.

Yes, but how effective can you be in international negotiations if your opponents know that you’re wearing diapers?
Being a contrarian by nature, I am not sure how beneficial this is to Ukraine. The balkanization of the former Soviet Union has been terrible for stability. It has resulted in numerous Islamic terrorist states being formed. The outright corruption that has resulted from Yeltzin’s policies have been devastating to the Russian people. I believe Vladmir Putin has been an excellent leader, because without order, there can be no rights. Granted, Russia is not some great libertarian state like many dreamed, but I for one think libertarianism is a rotten political philosophy. Libertarianism is my great concern for our country as we move forward, and the next generation comes to power.
What are these Islamic terrorist States that have been formed from the former Soviet Union? Chechnya seems to be a terrorist region, but the Chechen terrorists are committing terrorist acts precisely because they are not an independent State. In that sense Putin’s authoritarian rule would seem to be causing the terrorism in that region.
I can’t see anything wrong with a Ukrainian secession — the West can have Yuschenko, and the East Yanukovich. Why should either candidate be forced on a populace that doesn’t want him? Ukraine is already effectively divided — one half is Orthodox and the other Catholic.
Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, Chechnya, among others.
As far as Chechnya goes, Russia is trying to prevent a Muslim minority from taking control of that area.
We are in agreement on the separations present in Ukraine. BTW, wasn’t this recent election a CLEAR case for the electoral college? Europe may be an example where opposing ethnic groups have been able to get along. I find this argument to be a stretch. Europe is always on the brink of war, and has enjoyed relative peace for a minority of their history.
My case in point would be Ireland/North Ireland. Only until recently have they been able to coexist without murderous rampages. BTW, it looks like that situation is going to start up again. So much for peace.
Despite the horrible event, I keep loving the toxicology entries, Jimmy.
Prisoner diets his way to freedom
