Six Things To Teach Your Son

GLEEFUL EXTREMIST RECOMMENDS SIX PIECES OF MANLY WISDOM THAT SHOULD BE PASSED DOWN FROM FATHER TO SON.

However, they don’t sound that extremist to me . . .

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Hey! I can do or have done at least one thing from each entry on this list!
Except the part about electric wiring. Sorry, I leave possible electrocution to the professionals!

  2. How to tie a tie…and I mean a real tie, not one of those lame cowboy ties. 🙂
How to dance a real partner dance. Well. With elegant floorcraft. Maybe that’s not something a father should necessarily teach a son, but it must be learned by every real man.

  3. well, as long as we’re adding things: 1) how to do your own 1040 (at least the EZ form); 2) check your oil (not even change it, but know what weight to add); 3) fix at least 3, three-course hot meals, from scratch.

  4. Hehe done all that and the extras added above. But my son is only 2 so it will be awhile before I can pass it on.
FYI the list now has 9 now.

  5. Just ran across this site on how to tie neckties. I’ve never had to wear one, but my son is looking for a job and he had to learn.
