Careful, Steve Greydanus!

You’ve got some new competition!

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is now playing film critic.

At least regarding James Bond films.

GET THE STORY.

His review: Gadgets good; plots bad.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Obviously, the former Secretary of State is playing his critical cards close to the vest by strategically choosing to make his initial foray by commenting on a franchise for which I have yet to issue a review.
However, this might be only the first step in a campaign that could escalate to such areas as Jackie Chan films, Jesus movies, Pixar films, or titles in the Vatican film list.
I am consulting with my advisors and will respond appropriately at a time and place of my choosing.

  2. Actually, I think Powell is right in his assessment of the James Bond films. But the main reason I don’t like them is because the Bond character is a womanizer.
Perhaps he’ll embrace chastity at some point…

  3. Steve, do not underestimate the resolve of Colin Powell in his new career as a film critic.
