Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. “Genetically manipulating people to become slaves is not in their interests”
Well good. Now I feel safe. Go ahead and continue to learn how to turn people into slaves. Luckily our scientist overlords are incapable of “evil” or “wrong” acts unlike us unwashed, gape-mouthed masses.

  2. This is truly frightening – what if (insert enlightened population group here) decides that (insert unenlightened population group here) needs their individual initiative gene switched off, for their own good of course. To help these poor people who obviously cause violence and division by espousing (insert unenlightened belief here) we need to make them less volatile – it is better for society …(isn’t it?)

  3. Is this a bit less frightening?
what if (America) decides that (al-Qaida) needs their individual initiative gene switched off, for their own good of course. To help these poor people who obviously cause violence and division by espousing (militant Islam) we need to make them less volatile – it is better for society …

  4. Nope. Al-Qaida membershave exactly the same right to keep their minds untampered as every other person in the world.

  5. “We have to make choices about what makes a good life for an individual.”
Um, yeah. What might the individual say?
