Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live." With an invitation to the sodomite offenders to sue the State of California to ammend its Constitution to forbid ‘discrimination’ against gay couples in any way that would distinguish them from heterosexual couples, and then, presumably, invoke the full faith and credit clause.
It was a strategic retreat. Like when the center of the Greek lines pulled back at Marathon
If the Church does not recognize such a marriage as being valid, why should I care if California does?
Because it’s going to affect the next generation – as it has already affected this one.
As a teacher of high school students, it’s difficult for me to take the position, “Well, they’re secular anyway. I’m not secular. It doesn’t affect me.” Simply because we DO live in the world – and we must act to protect even those who don’t know they’re in danger.
My kids consider themselves Catholic – cafeteria Catholics when pressed, but Catholic. They almost 100% disagree with the Church about this issue, but many still WANT to be Catholic (I know, I know – but we’re talking about graduates from the “Color Me Jesus” school of catechetics, here). We need to give them an environment in line with the natural law so that they can come to reason.
But perhaps you’re being facetious and I’m simply knee-jerk tense because the battle begins anew for me Sept. 1st!
