Peggy Does It Again

A really nice column from Peggy Noonan. She takes on four issues. Gets all four right–with her usual gift of a plainspoken eloquence.

‘Specially liked the last line. Zinger.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. The way Europe has been behaving lately has been really depressing me.
It’s a real shame how the secular/socialist elites won’t even acknowledge the existence of Christianity in Europe’s history, not to even mention its great contributions to European culture. Except for a few exceptions, Europe really seems like it has abandoned the Church.
Is there hope for a renewal of Faith in Europe again?

  2. Jimmy,
She posted a new column, so the one I think you were referring to is in the archive; you may want to change the link (though the new one is good, too).

  3. Yeah, I love Peggy’s columns too.
One of my favorites is this one, entitled “Them: The One Group for Whom Liberals Have No Tolerance at All”:

“A short word on smokers. They are people who’ve made a deal. They are old-fashioned, and it’s an old-fashioned deal. Their sense of life is essentially conservative: They know it is short, they know part of how you say thank you for it is to really feel it and enjoy it, and they know this life isn’t the most transcendent and important one you’ll be living. Smokers are disproportionately Catholic, did you know that?”
    Hee!
