Upcoming Events?

A reader writes:

Do you have a list of events that you will participate in in the near future? I would love to attend one. I heard the Bible Answer Man debate against James White, and you’re the first Catholic I heard clearly refute all of White’s arguments while yours were still standing. Thanks for your witness!

Catholic Answers does have a schedule of upcoming events for our speakers, though I’m afraid that my administrative duties don’t let me travel that much, so I don’t get out on the stump that often. Other than the Catholic Answers cruise this October, I don’t think I have any currently scheduled public engagements.

I will try, however, to note on the blog when I have a public event coming up so folks in the area can check it out if they’re in the area.

'Nuther Interview (Stem Cells)

Did another media interview yesterday. A start-up cable TV network called WealthTV is doing a program on stem cell research, and they came by Catholic Answers to do an interview on the Catholic perspective on fetal stem cell research.

Once they got set up (which took a while), the interview only took about 30 minutes, and went very well. Nice guys on the production staff.

Due to the nature of the network (which is supposed to be a kind of lifestyle channel for the well-heeled set, from what I understand), I made a special point of the economic benefits of embracing the culture of life and how, due to the developed world’s failure to do so thus far, we are now facing Medicare and Social Security crises due to our declining birthrate. Less people out there means less economic productivity. Hopefully it’s a point that’ll have some traction with the folks who watch the channel.

The show is supposed to air in early to mid June, when WealthTV goes on the air. I’ll let y’all know when, if I find out.

First Things First . . .

I wanted to thank everybody who prayed for my BBC interview. I know it helped.   The interview went very well. I think that the people were a little opposed to the movie when I showed up, but after talking through their concerns I thought I sensed them warming up on the subject. We were also able to establish a rapport as a group, and I cracked them up a number of times (off camera).
I was surprised how long the interview took. They only had one camera but wanted to create the illusion of having more than one, so we basically did the whole interview three different times with different camera angles (that’s besides the pre-interview the reporter did with me before we started taping), plus some additional coverage footage of me or the host talking. The whole thing took over two hours. What they actually broadcast will be distilled down from that. All of this for what is supposed to be a 5-7 minute segment on the BBC’s Heaven and Earth Show. I wonder how long it would have taken if they wanted a full hour! Anyway, thanks again! Your prayers were much appreciated!

What’s Jimmy Working On?

Just finished the next Inside Catholic Answers newsletter. Topics this time were a major new educational campaign on the homosexual "marriage" issue and the overwhelming response we’ve had to the Voters’ Guide for Serious Catholics.

Also just got word that I may have to go up to L.A. next week to be interviewed by the BBC on The Passion of the Christ.

At work we just got back from the press our new evangelistic pamphlet God’s Love For You. Looks great. Is designed to be an outreach to people who are not Catholic. Thus far most of our materials are written for a Catholic audience, but now we are starting to branch out into materials written for non-Catholics to help them find their way to the Church. Our materials have been helping people to do that for years, but now, by providing things directly written for non-Catholics, they should be even more effective.

Tuesday I revised a chapter from Inside Mormonism to incorporate the change in the Holy See’s policy on the invalidity of Mormon baptisms.

Monday I turned in my next "Brass Tacks" column for This Rock. The topic this time was a look at the four senses of Scripture.
