Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. To those who don’t agree that Jimmy is counting how many days Pope Benedict has served as Pope: make note that these obscure number posts are in the “Benedict XVI” category.

  2. 32 days ’till the revealing of Secret Project #3.
It’s all coming to a head!
    🙂

  3. PUBLIUS! Thanks for pointing that out.
After reading what you say there, I examined the “front page” of http://www.jimmyakin.org. Lo and behold! On the left (which I tend to discount, because I’m to the “right”), I saw the section entitled “CATEGORIES”–one of which is entitled “Benedict XVI.”
One cardinal present in the conclave has said that the numerical two-thirds necessary for election was counted out at exactly 5:30 P.M. in the city of Rome on April 19. (That would have been 8:50 A.M. in San Diego–where Jimmy A. and I both live). The count continued, however, past two-thirds. Then the electee was asked whether he accepted the election or not. He accepted. About 5:50 P.M.in Rome (8:50 A.M. San Diego), the white smoke began to entertain the crowds in St. Peter’s Square. About 6:43 P.M. in Rome (8:43 A.M. in Jimmy A. land), the world heard “Habemus papam.”
So, somewhere inbetween 5:30 and 5:50 in the evening on April 19, his Eminence Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger accepted election as His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI.
Twenty-four hours later (i.e., after 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday, April 20, in Rome, but 8:30 A.M. in San Diego), Pope Benedict had survived Day One.
As I write, he has survived Day 32 plus seven hours and twenty-two minutes.

  4. I stumbled over my numbers in my post above. Here are the **CORRECTIONS**.

  5. bottles of beer on the wall, 32 bottles of beer, take one down, we’re counting upward for some reason, 33 bottles…
What, Benedict is German, it could still fit in his category.
