Author: Jimmy Akin
Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live." I’m posting this anonymously because I have tremendous respect for Mr. Akin and greatly appreciate his contributions to apologetics, and am concerned he might be offended by this comment, which is not intended to be taken as criticism. So, here goes:
From recent video clips I have seen of Mr. Akin’s appearance, it really does not seem to me that the whole low-carb regimen has been working for him. He seems quite a bit, um, larger than, for example, he is in the photo posted on this site. So I’m afraid I’m growing more skeptical of the whole low-carb approach, just because of that.
So how *has* the low-carb approach *really* been working, and why is it recommended?
I suggest creating a separate feed for you food. I didn’t subscribe for recipes.
“I didn’t subscribe for recipes.”
Actually, that’s the one thing that’s missing from these posts that I would like to see. Beyond that, it’s like looking at pictures of pretty food.
Yeah, it’s okay food photography, but without a recipe what’s the point?
I can not speak to why Jimmy Akin eats low-carb, but one reason other than weight loss that *some* people eat low-carb is to stabilize their blood sugar. Fluctuating blood sugar can cause unpleasant mood swings, tiredness, and feelings of hunger even at times when the person ought not be hungry (e.g. less than an hour after a large meal).

thx to anon trebor etc for mentioning video as I’d not previously thought of that.
over years of listening, I formed a mental image of JAkin that was a bit snowflakey—unique and crystalline, a little freezy but meltable to the touch, and I’d listen to hear that bit of melt in response to a particular call or response.
Now though, I’ve visited youtube and if it weren’t so late I’d keep right on clicking&choosing.
the in-studio visitations allow now me to see still the crystal, the clear, the distillability, but so very much more Dear. All that remains of that former image is beauty in uniqueness. Now I see patience and tenderness and humanity I never heard in all his eloquence.
to my humbling discredit.
Dear JimmyAkin—loving and thanking that you exist, and that you give of yourself to us Out Here as you do. and praying His blessings be generous upon you.
