Now here’s a bit of good news: Did you know that liberals believe that they are a repressed minority? That there is a need to recapture America from those awful Red State conservatives? Evidently so, despite all objective indicators that America is culturally and politically a Blue State society temporarily clinging to Red State voting blocs. Exhibit A: The "mission statement" of LeftyBlogs.com:
"There are a lot of great blogs out there — and it can be tough to track them all, even just in your home state. Here at LeftyBlogs, we’re building the one place you can go to stay on top of all the latest action alerts, news, gossip, and important info that every progressive activist needs.
"Remember, think global and act local. Together, we’ll take back America."
Amusing side note: If you’ve fallen for the myth that only political conservatives are prone to bouts of paranoia, I’m here to explode that myth. LeftyBlogs.com is so protective of its material that I had to literally transcribe the excerpt from LeftyBlogs reproduced above. LeftyBlogs apparently does not allow visitors to copy material through the standard copy-‘n-paste procedure that most bloggers use to post brief excerpts of Internet material.
UPDATE: Since there are some users who are able to copy-‘n-paste from LeftyBlogs — see the combox — my guess is that it is a technological glitch that prevented my copying, not leftist paranoia. Thanks to the readers who corrected my error.
Um. I was able to copy and paste stuff from the site. I’m just using regular old Firefox.

I have noticed sometimes that Firefox screws up cut/paste somehow. But it worked fine this time. 🙂
Michele, do you normally try to copy using a right-click? You need to use Ctrl+C or Edit -> Copy.
Also, in order to highlight something, put your cursor on the last word you want and drag right and down. Unfortunately, this also highlights everything above it.
My favorite way to get around something like this is just viewing the source code and picking out what I want.

I know this is technical and off topic, but if you’re using Firefox and you’ve installed the ‘Auto Copy’ extension, then when you highlight something, a) its automatically copied to your clipboard and then b) your highlight dissappears (which is actually quite annoying.)
I was able to copy stuff just fine as well. (wait, maybe its a plot by the lefties, your IP has been identified and they serve a special web page just to YOU…hmm…its technically possible, and Microsoft has done similar things.)
And a note thats on topic: Ever notice how the ‘more educated’ liberals seem to be really bad at math and logic? My wife’s uncle is gay and married to his ‘life partner’ through the Lutheran church. I’ll just say that its interesting receiving his Christmass(less?) letter every year.
I can see why liberals who are old enough (and, like theologically liberal Catholics, they are an aging population) would pine for the good old days when their lock on America’s institutions seemed unassailable.
They held a majority in Congress for 40 years, they had packed the judiciary (not just the Supreme Court), they had established unquestioned dominance in the nations universities and in entertainment and media.
Then came Ronald Reagan, and everything went downhill from there. The information age caught up with the old liberal institutions, giving common people (ugh!) choices they didn’t have before. The internet is just a little too egalitarian for the tastes of some. After all, wasn’t it a bunch of commoners (red staters) that elected Bush?
The current division, or deadlock, in American politics can be taken as a very hopeful sign. Almost anyone placing bets at the end of the 1960s would have figured that conservatism would be dead and buried by now.
After all, wasn’t it a bunch of commoners (red staters) that elected Bush?
Assuming said liberals acknowledge that Bush won. Many are still clinging to the belief that he perpetrated a nationwide vote-stealing conspiracy that the MSM has been unwilling to expose and Kerry unwilling to challenge.
Think nothing is going your way? Just check with the people you disagree with. They will assure you that your side is going to win unless something heroic is done right away! Oh and send money.
Jimmy,
It is paranoia. They added a JavaScript that disables some actions on a right-click. You can, however, still use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.
This affects only Internet Explorer, as the default security options for Firefox disable scripts from hijacking the mouse.
HTH
Excellent observation, Augustine.
For me, this is yet another example of my ignorantly avoiding an inconvenience simply by using Firefox instead of MSIE.
Michelle, it seems that your only error—one of which you could hardly be culpable–was in using a broken browser. :^)
Though Firefox gives me the power to copy text from leftyblogs with ultimate ease, I’m not sure how much use I’ll make of that power.
Evidently so, despite all objective indicators that America is culturally and politically a Blue State society temporarily clinging to Red State voting blocs.
To listen to some Leftist overseas, there is no Left in this country- just a bunch of Right-wingers in Left-wing drag.
Makes you worry as to what kind of Left-wing they would like to see here, doesn’t it?
Hey all – I’m the creator of LeftyBlogs.com. We’ve got no javascript running that blocks the Ctrl-C or right-click. We’re not doing anything to prevent copy and paste.
There is a CSS glitch in some versions of both MSIE and Firefox that prevents highlighting of text.
Thanks for checking us out, though.
No offense, but why all this talk about left vs. right or red vs. blue state stuff? Both major political parties in this country are based on false principles, and Catholics would be wise not to associate themselves too closely with either party.
Full disclosure: I’m a Catholic monarchist. Viva Cristo Rey!
In addition to having problems with math and logic, why have people lost sight of adverbs? “Think localLY, act globalLY”. Sigh.
Maybe “act local” means, you know, try to blend in with the natives.
