Who Wants To Be A Married Man?

Given current demographics, we can predict that coming soon to a Chinese audience will be a Made In China version of the game show Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? But the prize on the Chinese version of the show will not be a million dollars but a woman eligible for marriage:

"China will have more than 23 million men unable to find wives by 2020 because so many more boys are being born than girls, according to a study.

"The widespread practice of aborting female foetuses [i.e., fetuses] is being blamed for creating a generation of bachelors who will pose increasing social problems, it says.

"These men are known as ‘bare branches’ because they will never bear fruit. History suggests that they will give rise to higher crime rates and political instability. Their number might encourage China to become more authoritarian or seek an outlet for their energies through war."

Of course, Americans don’t usually discriminate on the basis of the sex of the child. In America, unborn babies have an equal opportunity to be aborted. So, in America, we may one day have a game show titled Who Wants To Live?

And modern man thinks the ancient Greeks and Romans who abandoned unwanted babies to the vagaries of the elements were barbarians.

  1. “Meanwhile, dating agencies and brothels are flourishing.”
    Sin breeds sin breeds sin.

  2. Interestingly enough, a similar problem exists in the Islamic world, except that the lack of brides is caused by polygamy. The result is that there are quite a few young unmarriagable men for whom the prospect of a normal life is dim.
Some of the consequences of this are:
internecine marriages (cousins being married to cousins as a way of providing brides to male extended family members)
social instability, with the brideless younger men agitating against the social order defined by older men with multiple brides.
political instability, with men seeking to gain brides by force by warring with neighboring nations.
sexual infidelity, wherein brideless men attempt to seduce married women in multiple marriages away from their husbands.
Monogamy – viewed from the natural law perspective – turns out to be extremely important for producing harmonious societies, precisely because it represents a social contract to give as many people as possible the chance to marry and have children.

  3. Interesting article, BillyHW. It makes me want to share my recent experiences.
My wife and I are expecting #3 on (or about) Sept 10th. Early on in the pregnancy, they detected a growth on the baby’s neck (cystic hygroma). From what we were told by the genetics councilor our doctor sent us to, about 50% of the time it could indicate a heart defect, Down Syndrome, Turner’s Syndrome, or Trisomy-18. Of course, one of the options offered to us was to kill the baby.
    Fat chance.
Of course, the other 50% of the time, the growth is something like an unconnected lymph node that gets reabsorbed into the baby’s system, and everything’s fine.
We (and many others) prayed a lot (and still do) for the baby. We allowed all the tests that we would normally get anyways (quad-screen, ultrasounds, etc.), and one extra, a fetal EKG to check for heart problems. Anything that would increase risk of miscarriage (CVS or amniocentesis) was ruled out…especially since we were already determined to keep the baby no matter what.
Thanks be to God, the growth did go away on its own, and the doctor told us that we most likely have “nothing to worry about”. The ultrasound tech said that if it weren’t for the early ultrasound, they would have never suspected anything based off the 20-week ultrasound.
Not that having a Down’s baby would have been devastating to us. We had already placed everything in God’s hands, and were willing to accept anything he gave us.
What really disturbs us is that people advocate killing the baby in a case like this…

  4. The ancient Greeks and Romans had this to recommend them above modern people: At least they were honest about their baby murdering. They didn’t try to dress it up with language of “choice” and “every child a wanted child” or the dehumanizing “fetus” and so on.

  5. Thanks for sharing that Kheldar.
I also am the father of a beautiful four year old boy who was “recommended for termination” due to some medications that my wife took a few days before we found out she was expecting.
He is a perfectly healthy, bright, loving child with no problems what-so-ever. The fact that they wanted us to kill our son still infuriates me.

  6. OTOH, the ancient Romans thought they were superior to the Carthagians who sacrificed their unwanted children (the sacrificial remains show a high percentage of handicapped and premature babies), because it was just prudent, it wasn’t something to be proud of. . . . Despite which, Justin Martyr did have to throw in an apolegetic comment that while Christians married and had children like other men, they did not in fact kill their children.
Infinite are the excuses of sin.

  7. Well Mary I would hope you would look at the facts concerning so called early christians. They themselves refused to fight against the heathen ungodly Barbarian horde that was murdering whole families by the thousands including children. It is the same today as the barbarians and heathens swallow up America all these cardboard christians refuse to fight even for their own children as State Organized Crime of CPS enslaves and kills their children, not to mentions State funded ABORTION! And what makes it all the worse is they cry freedom and law and constitution yet not one nation wide word of protest. As the Bible says “Many are called but few are chosen.” and “Why call me Lord, Lord and do not the things that I say?” Chritians are commanded to stand against evil, they are as an army to occupy till the Lord comes. Do you see any occupying?
