Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. My ex husband makes Jack Nicholson look like a pussy cat!
That was funny though, I much prefer this version.
    God bless.

  2. I thought The Shining was a horror movie from the early 80’s.

It is. That’s the joke — a trailer can sell a movie any way it wants to. (BTW, I recognize that song from the soundtrack of In Good Company. Don’t know who it is tho.)

  3. Ohh… ROF – LOL!!!
I love that Peter Gabriel tune, but I might have chosen “Going Up the Country” by Canned Heat.

  4. Oh No!!!! Solisbury Hill is one of my favorite songs. I hoped it isn’t permamently burned into my brain now as the new Shining soundtrack…

  5. Maybe I missed something, but why does Jack Nicholson look so… young if this is a new movie?
Or is it a new movie?
Also, for the last time I would like to use this public forum to explain to people that my last name and that of Jack are not the same
    J. NICKELSEN
    Jack NICHOLSON
    Thank you.
    Justin

  6. It’s also funny how taking out the definite article makes the film appear even more pleasant.

  7. Just thinking out loud, butI’ve never understood women who fancied him y’know…I just never found him appealing (dare say he’d say the same about me too)
Though I love his OCD character in ‘As Good As It Get’s’…he’s quite likeable in that, but not in a fanciable kind of way.
    God Bless.

  8. Although I find the spin amusing, it does point to a danger about using images out of context. In addition to the tricks you can do by taking frames from a film and imposing new music and selectively choosing themes, the mere act of framing a picture limits context.
Thomas Pynchon treats this theme in Vineland, albeit from a liberal perspective. Oddly, I’ve seen some recent photographs that suggest that the MSM is just as, if not more, guilty than any “Big Brother” for manipulating public sentiment through such means.
