Lion King vs. Tiger Prince

Steve Greydanus tells me that the Lion King is back in theaters and doing well in 3-D. He's not impressed with it as a film, however.

Personally, I've never seen it, but I've been exposed to enough Disney advertising to find the following video hilarious.

Author: Jimmy Akin

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Back when I worked in the kids’ area of a retail store, we always had several videos playing that we wanted to sell copies of. So you don’t want to know how many times I’ve heard every second of dialogue in The Lion King. It wasn’t my favorite to start out with, but after a zillion viewings….

  2. Maureen: The mark of great entertainment is rewatchability. Repeated exposure is like a trial by fire: It reveals the hidden flaws of imperfect entertainment and makes the strengths of great entertainment all the more striking.

  3. Well, as a kid of the late 80s and early 90s, I have to say Lion King is one of the best films ever made. And its important. It was a part of. My generations’ lives growing up, and don’t be so quick to dismiss it, or you might fail to understand what is important to the up-and-coming generation.
While I agree that Dumbo was a horrible movie, Lion King was great, and is a great teaching opportunity for young children.
