Seen on a Supermarket Shelf During My Recent Trip Back Home to Arkansas

Pork
Y'know, I can't remember seeing these on store shelves in California. Certainly not in these quantities.

Jimmy was born in Texas, grew up nominally Protestant, but at age 20 experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant seminary professor, he started an intensive study of the Bible. But the more he immersed himself in Scripture the more he found to support the Catholic faith, and in 1992 he entered the Catholic Church. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in Surprised by Truth. Besides being an author, Jimmy is the Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a contributing editor to Catholic Answers Magazine, and a weekly guest on "Catholic Answers Live."

  1. Pigs feet are very popular with the Mexican population. My gramma, from Veracruz, loved these! My husband from Guadalajara also loves these!

  2. Plenty of those on the shelves in the little town near me, here in E/SE Texas! 🙂

  3. I work at a grocery store (25 years) and we carry pigs feet, always have. They don’t sell very well, but well enough for us to still carry them!!

  4. JIMMY!!! You are so careful to give spoiler alerts. You should give us alerts when something is going to make us laugh so hard we might choke. I can barely type this, I’m shaking so with laughter. Thank God I wasn’t taking a sip of iced tea or something when I saw this. We also have fresh pig’s feet in the grocery stores around here (East Texas). I remember them from Arkansas as well. Actually sometimes gas stations will have the pickled ones too, and pickled eggs, in jars next to the register, near the giant glowing green pickled things-that-used-to-be-cucumbers.
