  1. It’s gratifying to see the Iraqi people turning out in such numbers, and have ignored the threats by the terrorists.Perhaps this will dispel all the negative words of the doomcasters who claimed that the US should have never gone into Iraq and -that the elections will fail -that Islam and democracy cannot coexist -that the elections would create a bloodbath -that the elections should be postponed .It’ll be interesting to hear the response from those who have bagged this election process from its inception.

  2. How long does this ink stay on? I fear this makes these brave folks easy targets for a killing spree by the barbarians.

  3. I’m happy to hear that Iraqi’s are voting but I’m not confident this election is meaningful. I’m upset by the American casualties that have made this election possible if only because I think that if Iraqi’s want freedom, they must be the ones sacrificing to achieve it. How many brave Americans lost their lives during the revolutionary war? If there are not Iraqi’s who are willing to make that level of sustained sacrifice, will their “democracy” last? I’m no “doomcaster”, I’m trying to look objectively at history and ask the question, is this possible. I’m not convinced it is, but time will tell.
I too wondered about the purple finger thing, seems like the perfect way to single out victims.

  4. My language sounds like I’m being insensitive to American casualties, I’m not, I’m saying they’re particularly tragic if they’re going to waste.

  5. Cool! Watching the Iraqis dancing in the streets just about brought tears to my eyes. Way to go, Iraq! Our prayers are with you.

  6. Yes, we should definitely use it here. I suspect that the DNC, Ted Kennedy, and the ACLU would complain vigorously that this was GOP voter-intimidation.
